Atomic Fingerpicking Power Plant
Saturday, July 19 12:30-2:30pm, $40*
Gary is known for his unique ideas and inspirational teaching style. Now he brings his systematic guitar approach to Gryphon workshop participants and offers the chance to go "nukular" without hurting anyone or raising the ire of world governments. You'll learn how to reduce any picking pattern to its essential atomic particles and rebuild them in almost limitless ways, revealing untapped energy in even the simplest pattern. As usual, Gary will start with simple and playable ideas and then show you how to develop them into original and effective new patterns that can be used in the style of your choice. You'll bring fresh excitement to your playing for use in accompaniment, motifs and variations, and even as chord-based solo breaks in bands. You can apply the ideas you take from this workshop to songwriting, performance, practice sessions, and to things you learn in any other workshop, class, or lesson.

The "This-Is-Not-Your-Father's-Capo!" Workshop
Saturday, July 19 3:00-5:00pm, $40*
Exploration, idea, creativity-these are some of Gary's favorite words. Ideas in this workshop can help you to develop an awareness of the amazing creative potential lurking in your capo. If you've ever been confused by the capo's reputation as a "cheater", your misunderstanding will dissolve as you examine its actual effect on what you play. Gary guides you in a comprehensive overview of the way a capo works on the fingerboard's matrix. You'll explore uses of the capo for timbral effects, transposition, and in conjunction with other musicians. The exciting and constantly developing world of partial capoing will also be carefully explored and explained. Gary recommends that you come equipped with a standard Kyser capo suited to your guitar, as well as either a Kyser Short-Cut or a Shubb Partial Capo.

* If you attend both Gryphon workshops the fee is $75.00
