GLJ Workshop on June 13 at Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago
I hope to see many of you in this workshop at the amazing Old Town School of Folk Music. I'll also be available for private sessions on Friday, Saturday, and Monday of that weekend. Please pass the word along to interested folks.
Private lessons are also always available in person in St. Paul, as well as via phone/email/snailmail/Skype or any other form we might devise. Here are the details:
Fun For Fingerpickers With Classical Guitar Pieces
The workshop will help fingerpickers discover the world of easy and approachable classical guitar music that is as fun to play as a Mississippi John Hurt blues or a Bob Dylan song. Examples will have engaging melodies, offer awareness to fresh ideas, and show how they fit into familiar chord shapes and patterns. The techniques involved will add new dimensions to any fingerpicker's chops. Some fingerpicking experience will be helpful, but this can also be your introduction to the "digital" world. BTW, these techniques can be applied to electric guitar, too.

I gotta tell ya-I hate telling what a song is about.
Lou Reed
I don't think the word 'improvisation' has any place in the creative process. It's a totally unsuitable word. Even an irritating one. I wouldn't use the word 'improvisation,' I'd use another term. I'd say what matters is being available, making oneself available to the thing that is being born and that is still shapeless, like molten rock, undefined.
Federico Fellini
Capture accidents. The wrong answer is the right answer in search of a different question. Collect wrong answers as part of the process. Ask different questions.
